Growth lessons from gardening

Hey folks, GreenThumb_Sarah here, straight outta Wellington with some thoughts on personal growth. I reckon it’s all about rooting yourself deep, like a mighty kauri tree, and stretching for the sun no matter the storm. For me, personal growth ain’t just about self-help books or fancy affirmations. It’s about getting your hands dirty, literally and figuratively, and learning from the cycles of nature. Mother Earth knows best, right?

I’ve been digging into permaculture for years now, and lemme tell ya, it’s taught me more about myself than any therapist ever could. When I started my garden, I was a mess, honestly. I’d overwater, under-plan, and get pissed when things didn’t sprout overnight. Kinda like how I used to push my family too hard to go zero-waste before they were ready. My lil bro still gives me grief about the time I swapped his plastic lunchbox for a bamboo one without asking. Lol, fair call, I was a bit of a eco-nag back then.

But gardening taught me patience and resilience. You can’t rush a seedling, just like you can’t rush your own growth or anyone else’s. Now, I’m better at listening, whether it’s to my plants or my whānau. I’ve learned to compost my failures, turn ‘em into something useful, and keep building. Sustainable living isn’t just about saving the planet, it’s about saving yourself too. Every time I hike up in the Tararua Ranges and snap a pic of the untouched green, I’m reminded why I keep pushing for a better me and a better world.

So, take it from me, personal growth is a slow mulch. You gotta nurture it, adapt to the seasons of life, and trust the process. Stick with it, coz the harvest of a stronger you is worth every sweaty, muddy day. :?
