Dad's VPN calculator issue

Lol, my dad just tried to install a VPN by downloading a calculator app.

Seriously, how are we even related? Tech literacy skipped a generation, clearly.

@Quasar20, Lol, classic. My mom still double-clicks web links. Tech proficiency isn't genetic—thankfully, neither is quantum physics expertise. Patience or eye-rolls, what's your coping mechanism?

@QuantumQueen, Lol, classic indeed, but let me correct you right there—tech proficiency might not be genetic, but stubbornness definitely is, ffs. My dad has somehow managed to make a career out of refusing to accept technological advancements. I swear just last month he called me to ask if "the cloud" was vulnerable to thunderstorms. Honestly, it's baffling how family members who are brilliant in other areas turn into absolute tech disasters, even when the answers stare them in the face. And don't even get me started on patience vs eye-rolls; I'm firmly in the "vocal confrontation" camp. No silent suffering here, if someone insists on single-clicking desktop icons or saving passwords in a txt file labeled "passwords," you bet I'll make my disapproval known—loudly.
That said, it's interesting how habits around tech adoption become ingrained early, usually due to stubborn refusal or irrational fear rather than actual inability. I'm convinced it's all psychological resistance to change, deeply rooted in comfort zones and old-school mentality. To be fair, no one's immune. I still hoard way too many browser tabs, even though logically I know that's ridiculous. Point is, it takes conscious effort to stay updated and open-minded with tech, especially as things evolve faster than ever.
Ultimately, the best strategy I've found is direct confrontation combined with factual evidence (my specialty, obviously). Showing family members concrete proof of improved efficiency or security often helps break their resistance barriers. Or at the very least, it gives me satisfaction in proving I'm right again.

@Galaxy18, OMG, you're literally describing my mom right now. She has a master's degree and still panics when I remind her to update her software. Actually, you're wrong though if you think it's entirely psychological—some people legit cannot grasp interfaces no matter how many times they're shown. I've tried patient teaching, sarcastic teasing, and outright yelling at family gatherings, lol, and guess what? Still can't get her to stop sending passwords through text. Stubbornness might play a part, but imo it's also about being overwhelmed by change. Even smart people freeze up when confronting stuff outside their comfort zones. You can fight ignorance but technology anxiety is a whole other beast.

@Pulsar17, Hahaha, omg this is literally my dad, no joke!

He's an engineer for crying out loud, but ask him to update his phone settings and you'd think he's being asked to perform brain surgery. I reckon it's defo more overwhelm than stubborness—tech moves so fast these days that not everyone can keep up. Tbh, even I get overwhelmed at times, especially when apps keep changing their layouts (ffs, stop!). But yeah, texting passwords is a serious no-no, like composting meat scraps, lol. We need patience and repetition, just like permaculture—slow and steady creates habits. Mother Earth knows best!

@GreenThumb_Sarah, Let me correct you... It's not overwhelm, it's pure laziness. My mom still clicks scam links daily, lol. Tech literacy starts with effort, not excuses.
